Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during their four-wicket victory against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk on Wednesday night. This was PBKS’ first over-rate offense in IPL 2025, which also resulted in them being required to position an extra fielder inside the circle before the 19th over.
Despite the field restriction penalty, Yuzvendra Chahal claimed four wickets in the 19th over, including his second IPL hat-trick, limiting CSK to 190 all out in 19.2 overs.

CSK, batting first, were well-positioned at 177 for 5 after 18 overs, powered by Sam Curran’s explosive 88 off 47 balls. However, they lost their last five wickets for just six runs, with Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni at the crease when the collapse began.
In PBKS’ chase, captain Iyer led from the front with a match-winning 72 off 41 balls, featuring five fours and four sixes. He continues to be the team’s highest run-scorer this season, closely followed by Prabhsimran Singh, who also contributed with a half-century in this match.

The victory propelled Punjab Kings to second place on the points table. Chennai Super Kings, with only four points from ten matches, are now eliminated from playoff contention.
Several other captains have faced similar over-rate penalties this season, including Rishabh Pant (LSG), Shubman Gill (GT), Axar Patel (DC), Sanju Samson (RR), Rajat Patidar (RCB), Riyan Parag (RR), and Hardik Pandya (MI).
