“I remember each and every second! It’s a very special film and closest to my heart as in a way, it launched me,” said Shehzad Khan proudly when Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to him about Andaz Apna Apna (1994). The comic caper was re-released on April 25 and Shehzad played the role of Bhalla, the sidekick of the villain, Teja (Paresh Rawal). The way Bhalla and Robert (Viju Khote) ended up making things difficult for Teja and also themselves raised tons of laughs. The laughs continue even today thanks to the performances and the tremendous repeat value of the film.

When asked how he reacted to the film’s re-release plans, Shehzad Khan said, “I was extremely happy. Ideally, this should have happened much before. But as they say, jahan se jaago, wahan savera!”
Not many are aware that Salman Khan’s father Salim Khan and Shehzad Khan’s father, legendary actor Ajit, were good friends. Hence, it was interesting to see the next generation coming together for Andaz Apna Apna.
Shehzad Khan said, “Salman is my childhood friend. My father was the person who brought Salim saab to Bombay from Indore. Salim saab even stayed in our house. He wanted to become an actor and my father promoted him as one. There was a film, Kabil Khan (1963), in which my father was the hero, Helen aunty was the heroine and Salim uncle was the villain. Hence, we go back a long way.”
He also opened up on his Aamir Khan connection, “Aamir is related from my father’s side. My father is from Shahjahanpur and so was Tahir uncle (Tahir Hussain).”
Andaz Apna Apna has several unforgettable moments and dialogues, many of which were last-minute additions, surprisingly. Shehzad Khan revealed, “It was all improvised. Dilip Shukla ji used to send the plot and later, we used to add a lot of improvisation.”
A scene that stands out is when Bhalla and Robert place a time bomb in a bouquet, hoping to kill Raveena (Raveena Tandon). Sadly, for them, Amar (Aamir Khan) and Prem (Salman Khan) accidentally throw the bouquet out of the house and just behind the spot where Bhalla and Robert are standing. The explosion doesn’t affect the front side of their body; however, their clothes are blown to smithereens from the back.
Regarding this scene, Shehzad Khan revealed, “Tab toh meri sach mein g**d fati thi, very honestly (laughs). I am sorry that I am using such a word. The most scared person on the set that day was me. Tinnu Verma, of course, is a great action master. But if a bomb is going to explode right behind you, wouldn’t you be s**t scared?”
