AI-powered Sansad Bhashini initiative set to revolutionize parliamentary procedures, MoU signed, ET Government
NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha Secretariat and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop Sansad Bhashini, an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered initiative aimed at enhancing multilingual access and streamlining parliamentary processes.
The agreement, signed in the presence of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw, will facilitate AI-driven translation, speech-to-text conversion, and real-time information retrieval for parliamentary records and discussions.
According to an official statement, the initiative will integrate parliamentary data with AI tools to improve accessibility for Members of Parliament (MPs), researchers, and academics. MeitY’s existing Bhashini platform will provide translation capabilities, leveraging AI models trained on parliamentary records.
The project will feature AI-based real-time translation of parliamentary debates, committee discussions, and legislative documents into multiple regional languages. A speech-to-text system will transcribe spoken debates with noise reduction and a customizable vocabulary for greater accuracy.
Additionally, an AI-powered chatbot will enable MPs and officials to quickly retrieve parliamentary rules, documents, and procedural information. The initiative will also include an automatic summarization tool to condense lengthy debates, aiding record-keeping and decision-making.
Union Minister Vaishnaw said the initiative would modernize parliamentary documentation and improve linguistic accessibility, aligning with the government’s broader push for AI-driven governance.
