NEW DELHI: The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) organized the SAIL–Defence Customer Conclave 2025 at its Alloy Steels Plant (ASP) in Durgapur on June 4, reinforcing its strategic role in strengthening India’s defence manufacturing capabilities. The conclave was a key initiative to deepen engagement with Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and align with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat mission.The event brought together senior representatives from major defence establishments, including ordnance factories, and focused on critical themes such as indigenisation, import substitution, and collaborative innovation in material specifications and technology.

Highlighting SAIL’s ongoing efforts to support India’s defence sector, the conclave featured keynote addresses by VS Chakravarthy, Director (Commercial), and Shri Alok Verma, Director In-Charge of Rourkela Steel Plant (also overseeing Durgapur and Burnpur Steel Plants). The leadership underlined the organization’s capability and commitment to scaling up supplies of defence-grade steel and meeting evolving requirements of defence manufacturing.

Discussions during the conclave explored ways to further standardize material specifications, adopt indigenous technologies, and streamline procurement processes to boost self-reliance and operational efficiency.

SAIL reiterated its commitment to being a trusted partner in India’s defence ecosystem, noting that the company accords the highest priority to supporting national defence needs. With increasing demand for specialized steel in indigenous defence projects, SAIL expressed readiness to expand production and supply to critical sectors.

The conclave concluded with a shared resolve among stakeholders to foster innovation, cooperation, and resilience in India’s journey toward self-sufficiency in defence and security infrastructure.
